World Premiere: My Father's Dragon
Premiering as part of the grand opening of new exhibits at the celebrated children’s literature musuem, The Rabbit hOle, My Father’s Dragon will at long last be unveiled! Duo Daniel Ketter (cello) and Emlyn Johnson (flute) bring the beloved children’s classic by Ruth Stiles Gannett to life in this commissioned work by Kimberly R. Osberg.
World Premiere with New Jersey Youth Symphony Flute Ensembles!
The New Jersey Youth Symphony has commissioned a new work for their flute ensembles, which will premiere as part of the NJYS Flute Ensemble Alumni Event on May 4th, 2024.
The substantial new work, Night Shifts, was inspired by the life cycle of stars and is comprised of three movements: Cosmic Nursery, Dwarves and Giants, and Adding to the Dark.
Performance by Resonance Ensemble: Seek What You Want to Find
Resonance Ensemble will reprise their performance of Seek What You Want to Find as part of their 15th anniversary celebration concert this June. The work, commissioned as part of their Portland Protests concert block, was inspired by the paintings of the recently-departed Henk Pander—which depicted scenes from the historic Vanport Flood as well as the protests following the murder of George Floyd in 2020—and text by Dr. S. Renee Mitchell.
Following the concert, Kimberly’s work will also be recorded as part of Resonance Ensemble’s latest CD project, Safe Harbor.
World Premiere at NFA!
The Southwestern Oklahoma State University and University of Central Oklahoma combined flute choirs will give the world premiere of Running in the Eye, a new work for flute choir inspired by tornadoes, at this year's National Flute Association Conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Public Appearance at Hollywood Theatre!
Kimberly will appear at the Hollywood Theatre this March to introduce a special screening of Under the Skin. Directed by Johnathan Glazer, the film features a fantastic score by composer Mica Levi, which Kimberly will discuss ahead of the screening.

World Premiere: BRAWL with Philadelphia All-City Band
The Philadelphia All-City Band will premiere BRAWL as part of their spring concert on March 12th at the Kimmel Center (home of the Philadelphia Orchestra). The work was written especially for this year’s concert band at the request of conductor Patricia Cornett.
World Premiere by Calpysus Brass!
Calypsus Brass gives the world premiere of near death as part of a recital of living composers. The work, inspired by whale falls, will also be part of Calypsus Brass’s debut album of newly commissioned works.

Natalie Groom presents Freaks of Nature as part of her presentation "Activism in Music: Flex Chamber Experiences for HS/Undergrad” as part of the Maryland Music Educators Association All State Conference. Written for clarinet, French horn, and bassoon, this multimovement work is inspired by various endangered species that appear freakish in appearance, but harbor interesting, useful, and even beautiful features.

Suite-Ass Cycle with Fear No Music!
Beloved Portland-based ensemble Fear No Music will feature Suite-Ass Cycle as part of the 9th installment of their “Locally Sourced Sounds” series. This performance will also feature works by Portland-based composers Skye Neal, Kirsten Volness, Rachel Modlin, and a newly commissioned work by Jessica Hunt.
Suite-Ass Cycle De-Mystified!
Beloved Portland-based ensemble Fear No Music will feature Suite-Ass Cycle as part of their “De-Mystifying New Music” series—deconstructing the work in a lecture-performance program complete with pastries and coffee! This installment is hosted by FNM musicians James Shields (principal clarinet of the Oregon Symphony) and Amelia Lukas (flute).
peace by piece on Modern Notebook!
Kimberly’s choose-your-own-adventure piano work, peace by piece will be on the Christmas Eve edition of Modern Notebook (WUSF Public Media) with host, composer Tyler Kline! The beautiful performance by Chris Opperman comes from his album, Still Waters - released in November 2023.
Our Little Secrets at Urbana-Champaign!
DMA candidate Michelle Bell will conduct Our Little Secrets as part of her doctoral recital at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign!

peace by piece Recording Release Day!
peace by piece, a choose-your-own-adventure piano solo, is receiving its debut on an upcoming album by pianist Chris Opperman. A collection of solo piano recordings to help keep you warm on a cold Winter’s night, Still Waters contains solo piano works by excellent composers including Ann Southam (who was inducted into the Order of Canada for her accomplishments shortly before her death in 2010), Pulitzer Prize winner Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, Chris Opperman, Philllip Schroeder, and Tyler Kline. peace by piece, featured across four tracks of the album, was directly inspired by the album art.

ROOTED is going on tour with the sjel Duo! sjel duo is made up of saxophonist Dr. Sarah Hetrick, Assistant Professor of Saxophone at the University of Arkansas, and percussionist Paul Millette, Assistant Professor of Practice in Percussion at the University of Texas, San Antonio. Most recently, sjel was featured on the opening concert of the 2022 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference at the University of Southern Mississippi, and they have been invited to teach and give recitals throughout the United States. As avid supporters of new music, Paul and Sarah have commissioned new works from over thirty composers, including recent collaborations with Kimberly R. Osberg and Katahj Copley.

Just Another Climb at TEDWomen 2023
The Merian Ensemble is set to present at the TEDWomen 2023 Conference in Atlanta, Georgia - including a performance of Just Another Climb, which they commissioned from Kimberly as part of the Project 12 commissioning series in 2020.

Fowl Play at NFA!
Commissioned by Elizabeth Robinson, Fowl Play is a multi-movement work for flute quartet inspired by the book Extraordinary Chickens. Each of the four movements uses a different combination of flutes, piccolos, bass, and alto flutes to capture the quirky beauty of Polish, Golden Duckwing Phoenix, Silkie, and Sumatra chickens. The work premiered at the Florida Flute convention in January 2023 and has also been professionally recorded as part of the album Aviary. This performance brings the work to a wide audience of professional flutists, educators, and composers as part of the 51st Annual National Flute Association Convention.
Premiere: Cult of Bulbs
Dr. Aaron Ragsdale premieres Cult of Bulbs. Using a simple set up of vibraphone and other resonant metals, this short work (commissioned by Ragsdale in Fall 2022) is inspired by the Phoebus Cartel—which controlled the manufacture and sale of incandescent light bulbs between 1925 and 1939, limiting the lifespan of products through a series of practices we now know as “planned obsolescence.”
Hombres Necios at Smith College!
Whistling Hens performers Natalie Groom (clarinet) and Jennifer Piazza-Pick (soprano) will perform Hombres Necios at Smith College in Northampton, Massachussettes.
Commissioned by Whistling Hens in the fall of 2022, the work sets a poem by the same name from Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz—a Mexican writer, philosopher, composer, poet, and Hieronymite nun (1648-1695).
Our Little Secrets at UNL!
DMA conducting student Trevor Frost presents a recital of works paired with original stories (written by Adam Berard) and choreographed movement. Other works include those by Ruth Gipps, Stravinsky, Brooke Pierson, JoAnne Harris, and Josef Mysliveček. In addition to the live performance, the concert will also be livestreamed on Trevor’s YouTube channel.
The Noise at UNI
The Noise is coming to University of Northern Iowa! This substantial multi-movement work for two vocalists and wind ensemble, which premiered at Pittsburg State University in 2019, is given new life by conductor Dr. Justin Mertz in the newly-revised edition of the piece. Kimberly will be attending this performance in person as part of a short residency at the University, so if you’re in the area come by to say hello!

Passing Through, San Antonio!
Brett A. Richardson conducts the SA Harmonie in a concert of works composed in the twenties throughout the last three centuries (1820s, 1920s, 2020s). Passing Through, scored for wind octet, was revised in 2020 and will enjoy its Texas debut this April.
Premiere: You, Us, Me
Commissioned by Christopher Rodriguez as part of the Spring Forward commissioning project in 2021, You, Us, Me will at last be premiered as part of a vocal repertoire masterclass as University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. The work, written for baritone voice and piano, is a short art song with original text in which the speaker reminisces at the end of a recent love affair.
ROOTED at NASA!
Commissioned by saxophonist Sarah V. Hetrick and percussionist, Paul Millette, ROOTED draws on the symbolism and imagery that reoccurs in Kahlo’s surrealist paintings and personal diary. The work will be premiered as part of the North American Saxophone Alliance conference in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
