WORLD PREMIERE: WRECKED for Bass Clarinet

Clarinetist Emily Mehigh presents the world premiere of WRECKED for solo bass clarinet as part of the College Music Society’s 2026 Central Chapter Conference. The work, commissioned by Mehigh, was inspired by historic shipwrecks and heavy metal music traditions.

Extracted Wisdom at Chatter PDX!

Chatter PDX will perform Kimberly’s Extracted Wisdom alongside works by Akshaya Tucker, Missy Mazzoli, and Brahms as part of their 52-week concert series. A set of miniatures inspired by wisdom tooth removal procedures, the piece will be performed by a quartet of Oregon Symphony musicians: Keiko Araki and Shintaro Taneda on violin, Haojian Wang on viola, and Trevor Fitzpatrick on cello. The performance is part of Kimberly’s chatterWORKS residency with the ensemble.

Interplay at Hallowed Halls!

Kimberly’s beloved trio for clarinet, violin, and piano makes its Portland debut as part of Chatter PDX’s inaugural LateWORKS program at Hallowed Halls. Presented alongside works by Andy Akiho, Iannis Xenakis, Steve Reich, John Luther Adams, Kaija Saariaho, and James Shields, Interplay will be performed by clarinetist James Shields, violinist David Felberg, and pianist Judith Gordon.

Rocky Summer with Driftless Urban Orchestra!

Conducted by Cullan Lucas, the Driftless Urban Orchestra will bring together musicians from around the Driftless region in Wisconsin to perform Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring alongside Kimberly’s lauded work, Rocky Summer (“impressive and moving…an unexpected array of beautifully organized musical sounds…wonderfully suspenseful” —Theatre Jones). The work, originally premiered by the Dallas Chamber Orchestra, presents a fully-fledged soundscape of the journey up and down a mountain trail in the Rockies, leading listeners to what they expect is the peak of the work—only to drop them off somewhere else entirely by the end.

WORLD PREMIERE: Anathallō

WORLD PREMIERE: Anathallō

The world premiere of a substantial new work for flute, oboe, and piano — Anathallō — commissioned by the Amici ensemble to pair with projected images of paintings by Christopher Still at the Tarpon Springs Heritage Museum.

The evening begins at 6:00 PM with a one-hour pre-performance panel discussion featuring Kimberly, Amici musicians Amy Collins, Francesca Arnone, and Andrea Feitl, and artist Christopher Still. The conversation will be moderated by classical music host and digital storyteller Susan Giles Wantuck of WSMR and WUSF. Following the discussion, guests may explore Still’s original works and large-scale giclée reproductions on view throughout the museum during a 30-minute intermission. The museum is home to artist’s permanent exhibition, The Great State of Florida; Paintings by Christopher Still.

The concert performance will begin at approximately 7:30 PM. Surrounded by candlelight, Amici will perform the title composition as Still’s paintings are projected in the background and narrative insights are provided by Susan Giles Wantuck, providing a dynamic dialogue between the music and art - resulting in an intimate, layered experience that connects sound, visual art, and a sense of place in a setting that reflects Tarpon Springs’ rich cultural heritage.

Night Lights with American Composers Orchestra

Kimberly’s work, Night Lights, is one of six compositions selected for the EarShot Readings with the American Composers Orchestra in New York City. Programmed alongside composers Seare Farhat, Tyler Kline, Ty Bloomfield, Coral Douglas, and Benjamin T Martin, Kimberly’s three-movement work makes its professional debut as part of a multi-day residency including workshops, educational engagement, and the final performance.

Residency Day at University of Oregon!

As part of her chatterWORKS residency with Chatter PDX, Kimberly will be at University of Oregon in February for a day of working with student composers. Chatter PDX will be workshopping & performing student works, programmed alongside works by Kenji Bunch and Kimberly’s residency piece, Conversations for Clarinet and String Quartet. The residency day will include a special presentation by Kimberly about her work.

Night Lights at Orchestra Hall!

Students from across the state of Minnesota premiered Night Lights in August 2025 as part of their All-State Orchestra camp - and now all 127 musicians are bringing it to the gorgeous home of the Minnesota Orchestra: Orchestra Hall! Featured as part of their mid-winter convention, this work was arranged especially for the Minnesota Music Educators Association All-State Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Cullan Lucas.

Freaks of Nature in the Netherlands!

Clarinetist Gerbrich Meijer will present Freaks of Nature as part of a relaxed morning concert at Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht (Netherlands). The work, originally commissioned by Natalie Groom, is a multi-movement piece inspired by endangered animals—animals that are a bit freaky at first glance, but hold a fascinating place in the ecosystem! She will be joined by Mees Vos on horn and Bram van Sambeek on bassoon.

Feature on New York Festival of Song

My Father's Dragon - a special exhibit opening!

Kimberly’s epic setting of My Father’s Dragon for flute, cello, and narrator receives its third performance — this time as part of a special opening ceremony for a new exhibit at the Rabbit hOle: the Discovery Gallery, featuring original artwork from the Newberry award-winning 1948 children's novel. Attendees will get to meet descendants of author Ruth Stiles Gannett, who have worked closely with The Rabbit hOle design team to share invaluable familial insight and curatorial guidance. The event is open to members only, but you can learn more about the performance and how to become a member here.

To Burst at CSBSJU!

Kimberly’s string orchestra piece, To Burst, will be performed by the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University Orchestra this fall! The work, featured on the orchestra’s fall concert program in Minnesota, was originally written for students at Sun Prairie High School in memory of their orchestra teacher, Deirdre Kern Abbott.

WORLD PREMIERE: Perpetual Motions

Tara Rozanski and Natasha Loomis give the world premiere performance of Perpetual Motions, a work inspired by the history of tortilla-making for two piccolos and electronics. Commissioned by pianist-composer Chris Opperman for the duo, the work explores just how little the process for making tortillas has changed in its thousands-year-long history—and just how much the world has changed around them.

WORLD PREMIERE: Night Lights @ MMEA

The Minnesota Music Educators Association presents the world premiere of Kimberly’s orchestral arrangement of Night Lights. Conducted by Cullan Lucas, students from across the state will rehearse a full program of music in a week-long camp in preparation for the summer performance at Concordia College in Moorehead, Minnesota.

Spain Debut at the International Tuba Euphonium Association Conference

Tubist Stephanie Ycaza brings Kimberly’s miniature for solo tuba to Valencia, Spain for the International Tuba Euphonium Association Conference this June at the Palau de la Música! The miniature, Hopeful, Warm, was commissioned in 2020 as part of Kimberly’s Commissions from Quarantine series—this performance marks its official in-person premiere, and the debut performance of Kimberly’s music in Spain!

WORLD PREMIERE at International Double Reed Society Conference

Kimberly is currently writing a brand new work for bassoon and horn that will be premiered as part of the 54th annual IDRS conference in Indianapolis. Commissioned by Makayla Rasmussen & Jonathan Hughes, Félicette is inspired by the story of the first cat sent into space. While her story is harrowing, she received a beautiful new chapter thanks to an artist (and 1100 Kickstarter funders!) who sought to give her a new ending.

Kimberly’s three-movement work for brass quintet, near death, will be performed at the International Women’s Brass Conference in Hartford, CT this May by commissioners Calypsus Brass! The work, part of an upcoming album release by the quintet, is inspired by the amazing process of what happens after whales’ bodies fall to the ocean floor.

WORLD PREMIERE: WINDRUNNER @ Ole Miss

Flutist Lauralei Palmer will unveil the world premiere of a substantial new work for flute and piano, WINDRUNNER, inspired by the Stormlight Archives of Brandon Sanderson. The work, a 12-minute single-movement piece, was commissioned by Lauralei as part of her degree recital at University of Mississippi.

Our Little Secrets @ Temple University!

Conductor Kalia Page will lead Temple University musicians in a performance of Our Little Secrets, an octet for winds that gained popularity during the pandemic for its smaller instrumentation and contagiously upbeat energy. The piece will be featured alongside other works by the Temple University Wind Symphony (led by Patricia Cornett).

Freaks of Nature Reprise!

Natalie Groom and friends will reprise the trio she commissioned for clarinet, horn, and bassoon FREAKS OF NATURE as part of a program of new music for residents at the Collington Senior Living facility. The work, inspired by unique (if slightly freaky!) endangered animals, features short pieces on the Volcano Snail, Huntsman Spider, and Giant Golden-Headed Flying Fox!

BRAWL with Kings County Concert Band!

Oscar Thorp leads the Kings County Concert Band in their winter concert as part of a joint concert program with Grand Street Community Band and Brooklyn Wind Symphony in Brooklyn, New York. Along with other modern and classic works for wind ensemble, KCCB will unveil the New York premiere of BRAWL.

Kimberly was able to work with the band in a virtual clinic earlier this fall, and the performance promises to be one to remember!
